Third Friday Events for November 15th, 2013, 6pm-9pm
Welcome New Artist Sarah Perkins & Emily Eve Weinstein to LabourLove Collective!
Stitch and Pop by Sarah Perkins
Creator of Stitch And Pop:
Hello! My name is Sarah Perkins. I have been sewing and designing for fifteen years and currently work out of my home studio in Kinston NC. I strive to create durable, unique items that are both practical and stylish. The majority of my materials come from a local, family-owned fabric store that has been operating for over fifty years. My labels and closures are sourced from Etsy supply shops. I hope you find something to suit your wants and needs.
Stitch And Pop ethos:
Fulfilling both maker and buyer, handcrafted items offer an originality and quality that far trump those produced in factories. Just like the upsurge of people wanting to know where their food comes from, people are taking interest in knowing where and how their accessories, clothing, household times, etc., are made. You are what you wear just like you are what you eat. By supporting crafts people and artists alike, we can transcend mass production and ascend to ethical, meaningful creation.
Emily Eve Weinstein
During the 26 years I lived in Durham, NC I facilitated large community murals, like the one near the Durham Arts Council and another example, is the one at Hayti Heritage Square. Besides my company, Murals-by-Many, I also originated, Pet & People Portraiture within which I did mostly animal likenesses in watercolor, gouache, pastel and oil. My leisure painting has mostly been plein air.
A publisher upon seeing my plein air painting done during full moons asked if I might like to publish a book on the theme. Within six months my first commercially printed book was avail-able nationally. The next to follow was Cat Book, then Dog Book and my last, about an event that occurred in Durham, is Saving Magic Places. If you live here, I have no doubt, that you will recognize a few folks!
The project I am working on now is the 25-year Handmade Book series. It will be completed in 2030 at which time I will be 80 years old. I currently live in Chapel Hill, NC, primarily so my husband can bike to work. We live with five cats, a large dog and I foster for Independent Animal Rescue.
All Events for Third Friday are Free and Open to the public from 6pm-9pm.
