The Beast is a fearless hip hop and jazz quartet from Durham, NC. Compelling lyrics, progressive compositions and a gripping live show make The Beast one of the most refreshing and versatile bands to emerge from North Carolina’s burgeoning music scene. Emcee and professor Pierce Freelon joined forces with pianist Eric Hirsh, drummer Stephen Coffman and bassist Peter Kimosh after they graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2007. Hundreds of shows and thousands of downloads later, they set the standard for live hip hop and genre-bending jazz in North Carolina. Artists Around Town Beth PalmerDurham Regional Hospital cordially invites you to attend an art exhibit and reception featuring Durham artist Beth Palmer, a breast cancer survivor. Her artwork on display, which includes eight giclee prints on canvas of her most well known paintings, will be donated to Durham Regional Hospital to hang on the oncology floor.

The Durham Storefront Project
The Durham Storefront Project is currently accepting proposals from artists, collectives, and other creatives interested in producing site-specific installations in downtown Durham storefronts – either an empty space or business. Proposals for this series of installations should explore points of connection to the space itself, the downtown environment or our community – physical, personal, abstract, or geographic. The installations will be accompanied by a series of performances that happen in and around the selected storefronts, creating artistic hubs. The Durham Storefront Project organizes installation series in underutilized spaces, highlighting the history and architecture of Durham, providing new opportunities for artists, and adding vibrancy to downtown. Dates: Installations will go up in early April and remain up until mid-May. Specific timelines are subject to negotiation between artist and owner. The installations will run concurrently with the Durham Art Council’s Spring Art Walk. Proposals: Please send the following information to durham.storefront@gmail.com by March 17th Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis by a committee of local artists and arts professionals/enthusiasts. Early submission is encouraged! Installations will be selected based on quality of previous work, availability of the space, and, compatibility with the vision of the Durham Storefront Project. |
