Many years ago I participated in a photography workshop in Maine. The instructor gave us an unusual assignment: shoot a roll of film before getting out of bed.
To my surprise the photos of silk curtains bathed in creamy light were some of my best. That bright summer Maine morning crystalized why I love photography–the simple pleasure of trying to capture the essence of people and places with beauty, feeling, and humor.
Even though I have taken pictures all over the world for the past 40 years, I’m still grounded in that first experience of finding wonder in the ordinary.
